Taboo?

Why is alone time so taboo to people?

There are days where I just want to spend the day by myself. Whenever I do so, everyone jumps to crazy conclusions. Haha. Is something wrong? Are you upset?

I’m just enjoying some quiet time. Not because something’s bothering me. But because it’s essential for me to evaluate myself and to think without interruption and without influences around me. Just be able to confront my mind. You know what I mean? I wouldn’t call myself an introvert but I think it’s important to have some degree of sovereignty from people in your life. It allows you develop who you are as an individual. That’s the thing about college. People get so attached to being around friends all the time that they are uncomfortable spending time by themselves.

And we live in a world, where we’re always in contact with someone. Texting, facebooking, tweeting. We have to interact with more and more people on the internet while we’re already interacting with people in the physical. It really devaluates who we are as individuals and how we structure relationships with friends. We can no loner stand on our own and we can’t even provide our company with our full attention. People are apprehensive when they’re alone. Thinking that they’re ultimately forgotten by everyone else for that moment because they’re not active on the web or in the immediate physical. So we need to provide a status update to show that we’re still alive. I think we all have that complex to a certain degree. And that shouldn’t be the case.

But my main point is that being alone doesn’t equate to loneliness. It shouldn’t be as negatively construed as it is.

So yes, sometimes I get a little boat in the bay and fish. Alone. I turn off my phone, enjoy my time, and let my mind just travel.
